In 2016, I helped start Young Explorers at The Explorers Club with Richard Garriott and other families. Hands-on sessions with field explorers and scientists eventually led us out into the field.

Kilimanjaro
Our family climbed the Rongai route with three Explorers Club families, Tim Challen and the Kilimanjaro Initiative. We reached the summit on 26 August 2024 after seven days. The children made simple medical observations along the way.

Fuji at sunrise
The Kraus and Garriott families climbed together via the Subashiri Trail, timing the ascent for sunrise at the summit. After Kilimanjaro, it was another chance to prepare, keep moving and reach the top as a group.
